I Am Trying to Lose Some Weight, Is Cardio the Best Exercise?
Visit the official Cardio Twister Website
I am overweight! I went from 123 to 155 over the course of 2 years of being stressed, not being active. I am 5′2” and 19 years old. I did Tae Bo Get Ripped Series on Saturday and Hip Hop Abs last night. My problem is if I spend an hour or two working out and then go eat I gain the calories I just burned right back. Does doing Cardio exercises help burn calories and is it healthy to do cardio for more than an hour?
Yes of course it is, but you have to avoid overfilling the fuel tank when you’re done. Weight loss is all about calories in vs. calories used. Any combination of calorie restriction and exercise will get the job done. I like to eat so I lean towards more exercise to keep the weight in check.
There’s nothing wrong with two hours a day or even more. You might get better results with things like swimming, cycling, and running that burn more calories in less time.

Yes cardio is the best. I don’t know about doing it for more than an hour at a time. Maybe just in one hour – or less – blocks would be best. And that does happen with exercise [eating the calories to replace what you burned] but remember that you are constantly burning calories even when you’re sitting at the computer. It takes calories for the heart to pump blood, so don’t get too disheartened if you eat the calories you burned off – at least you ate them and burned them off rather than just eating them!!

Yes, but you still don’t want to over-eat after you workout. I know how hungry you get! After your workout, you should eat alot of protein. about 20g if you did a hard workout. Stay away from carbs and fill up on water.

Personally, I have always had a hard time with combining cardio and diet. The main reason being, I have a harder time controlling my diet when I burn that much energy. When I am trying to lose weight, I stick to a healthy controlled diet and 3 15-20 minute strength workouts per week.
I suppose it all depends on the person though.

No, cardio type of exercise are not the best way to lose weight. It is a great way to condition your heart. Cardio and aerobic type burn calories while you are doing the exercise- which is good. Anaerobic-type (such as free weights and circuit training) does not burn as much during the exercise (compared to cardio) but they continue to burn more after the exercise- which is great.
As always, diet and exercise are the key.
As for diet, try eating 6 smaller meals a day with a protein shake for breakfast and lunch. A single serving of fruit for mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack. Dinner should be a sensible meal- minimize rice and breads. Try this for a two-week period. Then, vary your meals accordingly.
Workouts should have weights and circuit type of training. Free weights are great for toning and weight-loss. You can try dumbbell squats with shoulder presses. Here is a great and effective circuit training using a treadmill. Walk for 2 minutes (as a warm-up), jog for 2 minutes, run hard for a minute, then jog for 2 minutes, run hard for a minute, etc…do this for about 20-23 minutes. This works great.
By the way, do not be a slave to scale. Check the mirror also. It will show results.
This is just a start. Keep working out and eating properly.
Good Luck.

80% of weight loss is diet. You can workout and waist time if you don’t diet at the same time. Get you diet under control and start counting calories so you know where you are at.
Cardio for one hour is long for the average person but many people who workout hard that is nothing. You can’t harm your body by doing two much cardio.
I do 1 hour a day at the gym and I cycle 40-100 miles at a time and have spent up to 7 hours in the saddle. The longer you go the more fat you burn because you burn past the reserves and get to the fat.

Doing more than an hour of cardio is fine, as long as you are working at a calorie burning rate.
Max heart rate is 220-your age which in your case is 201
And to burn calories you need to be working between 65-85% of your max heart rate, which is around 130-170
To cure the eating lol you should try drinking green tea after a workout. It mellows down the sugar cravings.
Hope this helps
